For those expecting a pullback, it was another relentlessly bullish week.

Instead of the pause many were waiting for, the market continued to push higher with very little friction. What we’re seeing increasingly resembles a classic lockout rally, the kind that leaves participants underexposed and struggling to find rational entry points.

These phases are rare, but not unprecedented.

Historically, similar environments have occurred during periods of extreme momentum, particularly in tech-heavy indices like the Nasdaq. There have been instances where the Nasdaq advanced close to 20% in the span of a single month, with only minimal retracements along the way. During those stretches, dips were shallow, short-lived, and often bought immediately, effectively locking out anyone waiting for cleaner setups.

That’s what makes this type of market so challenging.

When price moves in a near-linear fashion, without building structure or offering consolidation, it disrupts the natural rhythm most systematic approaches rely on. There’s no real opportunity to size properly without accepting elevated risk.

From a portfolio management standpoint, it becomes a difficult trade-off.

The trading week has been fairly intense by our standards.

Three positions were closed, two new ones were initiated, and we significantly reduced what ended up being the main contributor to this week’s performance: Arm Holdings plc (ARM).

We are currently holding roughly 25% of the original position. We scaled out in three tranches, each representing 25% of the initial size, capturing gains of 11%, 17%, and 47% over just 11 trading days.

An exceptional outcome.

Probably one of the cleanest executions we’ve had in recent months. The position sizing was right from the start, the risk was well defined, and the broader market provided the tailwind. The theme was aligned with current narratives around CPU constraints, and the sector, semiconductors, was clearly in a position of strength.

When all those elements come together, the result can be powerful.

That said, we’re now leaning more defensive.

Not because we have a strong directional view, but because the market is showing signs of needing a pause. Extensions across the semiconductor space, in particular, are becoming difficult to justify from a sustainability standpoint.

Our system is currently flagging what we define as a maximum overextension signal across the sector. Historically, when this condition appears, a pullback tends to follow within three to five trading sessions.

It’s not guaranteed, but it’s consistent enough to demand respect.

Which brings us back to the same principle.

We don’t predict. We position.

And right now, patience remains the most rational trade.

CRCL: Circle Internet Group Inc ⚠️

What they do: A financial technology company that issues and manages USDC

Why watch? Circle’s business model is refreshingly straightforward in an industry often characterized by complexity. The company takes real U.S. dollars, converts them into digital tokens called stablecoins (USDC being their flagship product), and parks the underlying cash in Treasury Bills. The interest earned on those T-bills is Circle’s primary revenue stream. Think of it as a money market fund with a digital wrapper: simple, transparent, and highly dependent on interest rates.

The distribution side of the equation matters too. Circle relies on crypto exchanges and other platforms to put USDC in front of users, and those distributors receive a share of the interest income as compensation. Profitability, therefore, comes down to whether the interest earned exceeds both distribution costs and operating overhead.

The elephant in the room is Tether, the global leader in dollar-pegged stablecoins. The key distinction between the two competitors is philosophical: Circle has built its entire brand around regulatory compliance and transparency, while Tether only recently announced plans to have its reserves independently audited. For years, questions have lingered about whether Tether actually holds the Treasury Bills it claims to back its tokens. Circle’s USDC carries a meaningfully lower risk of losing its dollar peg precisely because of this commitment to verifiable reserves, a distinction that matters enormously to institutional investors and regulators.

Two structural growth catalysts deserve attention. The first is asset tokenization: the process of representing real-world assets like real estate, bonds, or equities as digital tokens on a blockchain. Industry estimates put the eventual size of this market in the trillions of dollars, and stablecoins would serve as the settlement currency for these transactions, dramatically expanding demand for USDC. The second catalyst is the rise of agentic AI. Autonomous AI systems that execute financial transactions on behalf of users would naturally gravitate toward smart contracts, which settle instantly and programmatically. Stablecoins are the native currency of that ecosystem, and Circle sits at the center of it.

Technical Outlook: The stock has given back most of its gains from the earnings-driven surge earlier this year, but has found consistent support at the $85.00 level on multiple occasions, a clear line in the sand that also coincides with the 50-day simple moving average. For a stock with an 8% average daily range, the most recent session’s move of just 0.38% is remarkable compression. That kind of stillness in a volatile name typically precedes a meaningful directional move. The risk-reward in this handle formation is attractive, and the setup becomes actionable on a convincing break above the $100 to $102 range on elevated volume. If the broader market stabilizes and the stablecoin narrative continues to develop favorably, this could be one of the more important themes of the next several months.

Like other topics we’ve covered in recent months, such as the space economy (Research #26) or the growing strain on electrical infrastructure from the rise of data centers (Research #27), it starts as a broad idea but can uncover new investable themes.

These themes can help identify publicly traded players positioned to benefit from the trend. In fact, in the second part of the analysis, which we’re aiming to release as early as next week, we’ll highlight at least one listed company that could be a strong opportunity if you believe this theme will play a meaningful role in the future of AI.

THE MEGATREND, THE CONNECTIONS, AND THE MONEY GAME

Now that you understand what glass substrates are, let’s talk about why this matters as an investment theme, and why the second and third-order effects of this transition are far larger than most people realize.

The Fog of Direction

Before we get excited, let’s be honest about something. Unlike the transition from copper to optical interconnects, where the direction was clear and the only question was timing, the substrate battlefield is genuinely uncertain.

Multiple futures are competing simultaneously.

This is not a story about a guaranteed winner. It’s a story about a massive structural shift where the spoils will go to whoever can navigate the fog.

Three camps are fighting for the future of chip packaging.

The glass camp believes glass substrates will replace organic substrates as the foundation of AI chips. Intel has invested over a billion dollars and holds nearly half of all patents in this space. Samsung has assembled the most ambitious vertical integration of any player, with its SEMCO subsidiary handling glass-core substrates, Samsung Display contributing large-area glass-processing expertise, and Samsung Foundry covering packaging integration. Absolics, a subsidiary of SKC, built a $600 million factory in Georgia and secured $175 million in US government support through the CHIPS Act.

The organic camp argues that the old physics isn’t dead yet. Ajinomoto’s ABF film commands over 95% of the global market for organic substrate insulation material. Current mainstream products sit at a line/space of around 10 micrometers, but leading-edge processes are already hitting 5 to 7 micrometers. The industry has officially entered the sub-5-micrometer race, with 3/3-micrometer demonstrations already on the table. There’s still meaningful headroom before any physical wall.

There are phases in the market where doing the right thing doesn’t just feel uncomfortable; it actively makes you look like you’re getting it wrong, and this is exactly one of those moments.

When a portfolio manager is focused on protecting profits, staying on the defensive side, and doing everything possible to minimize drawdowns, the perception of that approach becomes entirely dependent on what the market decides to do next. When things break down and indices roll over, that discipline looks sharp, almost visionary, but when the market turns around and starts pushing higher aggressively, especially without structure, the same approach suddenly looks slow, hesitant, even incompetent.

Over the past two weeks, we’ve clearly been on that side of the trade.

We moved from a market environment that looked extremely fragile, with a very real risk of a deeper correction driven by negative headlines and ongoing geopolitical tensions, into a rally that very few could have anticipated in both speed and magnitude, with the Nasdaq gaining roughly 16% in the span of just two weeks, which is the kind of move that doesn’t just catch you off guard, it forces you to constantly question whether you’re reading the market correctly at all.

And when you’re positioned defensively during a move like this, the outcome is almost inevitable.

Over the last 30 days, we’ve underperformed the indices by more than 6%, and while there’s no point in trying to sugarcoat it, because we feel that gap and we’re fully aware of it, there’s also a level of acceptance that comes with understanding that our framework simply wouldn’t allow us to behave differently in a context like this.

How do you build meaningful positions when the market is moving this fast, with this level of volatility, without any real pause, without consolidation, without those moments where price tightens, and risk can actually be defined? From our perspective, you don’t, or at the very least, you don’t do it with any meaningful size, because stepping in aggressively in these conditions isn’t a calculated decision; it’s a bet.

And that’s not what we do.

Capital protection remains the priority, even when it comes at the cost of underperformance, because while lagging the indices is frustrating and, at times, uncomfortable, exposing the portfolio to uncontrolled downside is something we’re simply not willing to accept.

At the same time, when we zoom out slightly, this type of move doesn’t feel particularly sustainable, especially considering how quickly it developed and how little structure has been built along the way, which makes it reasonable to expect some form of reset, whether that comes in the form of a gap down or a broader pullback over the next couple of weeks.

Paradoxically, that would be exactly what we need.

A period of consolidation would allow leaders to cool off, build proper bases, and create those cleaner, more defined setups where risk is contained and positioning can be scaled with more conviction, which is where our approach tends to perform at its best.

Despite the overall environment, we did open two new positions this week, and so far they are behaving well, which at the very least confirms that our selection process is still aligned with what the market is rewarding, even if our overall exposure remains limited for now.

As always, every phase of the market, regardless of how frustrating or uncomfortable it might feel in real time, carries something valuable in terms of feedback, and the process remains the same: observe, adapt, refine, and make sure that when conditions finally align, we are ready to act with clarity and size.

CRDO: Credo Technology Group Holding Ltd ⚠️

What they do: A semiconductor company specializing in high-speed connectivity solutions

Why watch? Credo has been one of the standout performers in the semiconductor space over the past several weeks, and the reasons go well beyond simple momentum. The company sits at the intersection of two powerful forces: relentless AI infrastructure spending and the increasingly complex networking demands of next-generation data centers.

A common misconception about Credo is that it operates in a narrow niche. In reality, the company has been quietly building a comprehensive optical networking portfolio. It never fully exited the optical market, continuing to sell digital signal processors (DSPs, the chips that manage how data is encoded and transmitted over optical fiber) to other component manufacturers. Its recently launched Bluebird and Cardinal DSPs are designed for upcoming 1.6 terabit-per-second optical transceivers, which represent the next frontier in data center bandwidth.

But Credo didn’t stop at selling components to other companies. It made the strategic decision to design and sell its own complete transceivers, launching its first product in March using its proprietary Robin DSP at 800G transmission speeds. A 1.6T version is widely expected to follow. For context, higher transmission speeds mean more data can move through a single connection, which is critical as AI workloads generate enormous volumes of data that must travel between servers at extraordinary speeds.

The acquisition of DustPhotonics for approximately $750 million in cash, $550 million in stock, and contingent milestones adds another dimension to this story. DustPhotonics specializes in silicon photonics: a technology that integrates optical components directly onto silicon chips, enabling faster and more energy-efficient data transmission. This acquisition positions Credo for the transition to co-packaged optics (CPO), a next-generation architecture where optical components are integrated directly alongside processors rather than connected through cables. Getting ahead of this shift could prove enormously valuable as data centers evolve.

Technical Outlook: The stock has delivered a near-100% gain in roughly two weeks, an extraordinary move that now requires patience. The consolidation is still in its early stages, just two days in, and the stock needs more time to digest those gains before the next leg can develop sustainably. The 10-day exponential moving average has been the stock’s preferred support level throughout this run, and a pullback to that level ( or to the 20-day EMA) would create a far more attractive entry point than chasing the current price. The $165.00 level represents the key threshold for the next advance. This is a stock worth monitoring closely, but the best opportunity will likely come on a controlled pullback rather than at current levels.

Another week, another reminder that volatility cuts both ways, and lately, we’ve been on the less pleasant side of it.

We’re still feeling the pressure.

When risk management is your top priority, it naturally limits how aggressive you can be.

That means passing on those violent gap-ups that feel impossible to chase, and it often means trimming or avoiding positions when the broader market still looks fragile, like it did through the end of March, when a deeper correction seemed not just possible, but likely.

The reality is, this approach can make you look… not great in the short term.

There’s a reason seasoned traders often say that good risk management can feel like stupidity in real time. You cut exposure, stay cautious, and then watch stocks rip without you.

It’s frustrating, and yes—right now, we do feel a bit like idiots.

But zoom out, and the logic still holds. The same discipline that keeps you out of extended moves is also what protects you when things truly break down.

It’s not designed to maximize every opportunity, but it’s designed to keep you in the game.

Right now, the market feels like it’s trying to find its footing again. What we’d really like to see is some proper consolidation: leaders cooling off, setting up clean structures, building those textbook flags that give you a defined, lower-risk entry.

Because that’s our moment.

When things tighten up, and the noise fades, that’s when we need to be fully locked in: ready to step in with more size, more conviction, and a clear plan.

Until then, patience isn’t just a virtue; it’s our strategy.

Why watch? Futu is one of those businesses that looks almost too good on paper, which is precisely why it has attracted skepticism alongside admiration. The company’s gross profit margin came in at 88.7% in the most recent quarter, a figure that reflects both the inherent scalability of a digital brokerage model and the pricing power that comes with a platform that clients find genuinely useful.

The most recent earnings cycle told a compelling story. Management exceeded its own guidance by 19% in 2025, funded accounts grew 40% year over year, and the company has set a target of adding 800,000 new funded accounts in 2026. These are not the metrics of a business struggling to find its footing. The balance sheet is equally impressive, with $130.5 billion in client assets and no long-term debt, giving the company significant financial flexibility.

Analyst sentiment has been shifting positively. Citigroup upgraded the stock to Buy, and Barclays initiated with an Overweight rating, while Allspring Global Investments increased its institutional stake. When multiple independent research teams and institutional allocators are moving in the same direction simultaneously, it tends to be worth paying attention.

The broader context matters here as well. Trying to add exposure to China-linked assets has been a contrarian but increasingly interesting trade to think about, and FUTU, with its international footprint and digital-first model, is among the higher-quality ways to express that view.

Technical Outlook: After losing roughly 30% of its value and trading sideways since August 2025, the stock found consistent support at the $153.00 level last week. The level was tested multiple times in the last weeks, both as resistance and now as support. A couple of additional sessions of sideways consolidation would be ideal before committing to a position, allowing the pattern to tighten further and improving the risk-reward on entry.

Unfortunately, the current market volatility just doesn’t suit our swing trading style, which is all about finding low-risk opportunities: that’s how we trade and manage the portfolio.

It’s wild to think that on March 17th, we were at our peak, up around +11% for 2026, and then a string of consecutive losses brought us down to about +2.5% today, even while the indices are negative YTD. All things considered, given what’s happening out there, we’re still fortunate to be in the green.

The funny part? Our most recent losses all came from stocks that ended up ripping over the past two days: DOCN, AAOI, LUNR.

But that’s fine.

The selection has been solid, our market view and themes are on point, we just need to be more defensive during downtrends. Paradoxically, during this 2–3 day push higher, we barely moved the portfolio, aside from a small starter position earlier in the week. Nothing else.

From now on, we’ll start adding a short intro to the watchlist, focusing more on how our trading week actually went (our thoughts, what’s happening behind the scenes), dialing back the “writer” tone a bit.

March’s earnings report provided the fundamental fuel for this shift in sentiment. The company posted a full-year revenue increase of nearly 13% year-over-year, reaching approximately $710 million. This growth was underpinned by a record $187 million contribution from its GenEco electrolyzers, which now boast a global sales funnel valued at a staggering $8 billion. Technical Outlook: The stock has rallied roughly 40% from its recent lows, but the most compelling evidence for a turnaround is the price action around the $2.45 level. Since late 2025, this specific price point has acted as a ceiling that the stock is now aggressively testing. What makes this setup particularly high-conviction is the alignment across multiple timeframes: the $2.45 barrier is a prominent horizontal resistance level on the daily, weekly, and monthly charts simultaneously. When a stock breaks out from such a universally recognized technical level, the resulting move can be powerful. With a stop-loss positioned just beneath the recent daily lows, the setup offers a disciplined risk-reward profile for a stock that appears to be transitioning from a speculative laggard to a leader in the renewable energy thematic.

There is a particular kind of silence that only exists in the hour before something breaks.

Not peace. Not calm. Something tighter than that. The silence of a man who has made his decision and is now simply waiting for the world to catch up to it.

I have been in trading rooms when the tape starts going sideways. I have watched grown men, smart men, men with Ivy League degrees and Bloomberg terminals and twenty years of experience, completely come apart at the seams because the number on the screen was moving in the wrong direction. The instinct is primal, and it is almost impossible to fight.

Do something. Anything. Move. Reposition. Hedge. Call someone.

The anxiety of stillness in a volatile market feels physically indistinguishable from cowardice, and most people cannot tell the difference.

Sun Tzu could.

He wrote it down twenty-five centuries ago, in a chapter that most people skim because it doesn’t have the quotable aggression of the rest of the book.

“Ponder and deliberate before you make a move.”

Five words. No footnotes. No framework. No three-step process. He trusted that anyone who had ever stood on a real battlefield, with real consequences, would understand exactly what he meant without needing it explained.

The general he was describing wasn’t sitting still because he was afraid. He was sitting still because he understood something that the anxious men around him did not: that the battlefield punishes revelation. Every move you make before you are ready is information you hand to the enemy for free. Every repositioning born from panic rather than clarity is a resource burned, a position exposed, a card shown. The general who moves first out of anxiety doesn’t gain an advantage.

He just loses slower.

And then, in the same chapter, almost like he’s daring you to miss the point, Sun Tzu writes the other half of it: “When you move, fall like a thunderbolt.”

The two sentences are inseparable. The stillness is not the strategy. The stillness is what makes the strategy possible.

Right now, the market is doing what markets do when the world gets genuinely complicated. It is punishing everyone. The careful and the reckless, the hedged and the naked long, the guy who did his homework, and the guy who bought because his brother-in-law told him to. QQQ is down roughly five percent year to date. SPY is not far behind. There is a war unfolding in Iran, fear is moving through the tape like smoke through a building with no exits, and the financial media is doing what it always does in moments like this, which is to take the worst possible interpretation of every data point and present it as the only reasonable conclusion.

The noise is loud. It is designed, whether by intention or by the simple mechanics of how attention gets monetized, to make you feel like the worst possible outcome is the only possible outcome.

I am not telling you that to brag. Bragging is for people who need the validation. I am telling you that because it is the only honest way to explain what we actually do here, and what we are actually doing right now, which is nothing.

Deliberately, consciously, strategically nothing.

We are risk managers first. Portfolio managers second. In an environment like this one, the job is not to find the next great trade. The job is to keep the body count low. To play defense so well, so quietly, so without drama, that when the smoke eventually clears, we are still standing with enough capital to act. Most people get this backwards. They think the money is made in the buying. The money is protected in the waiting. Sure, we tried a couple of positions here and there, but nothing big.

There is a version of this story that gets told a lot in the financial world, usually by people who have never actually lived it. The version where discipline is clean and elegant and looks good in a presentation deck. Where you calmly identify the risk, rationally adjust your exposure, and move on with your day.

That is not what it feels like.

What it actually feels like is watching a position you believe in get hit for no reason other than macro fear, and sitting on your hands anyway. It feels like reading the headlines and feeling the pull, that old familiar pull, to do something, to prove you’re paying attention, to justify your existence as someone who manages money by making a move. It feels like the guy next to you at the terminal is repositioning and you’re not, and for a moment, just a moment, you wonder if you’re the idiot.

You’re not. But you have to be willing to sit with that feeling long enough to find out.

The market right now is a test of exactly that. Not intelligence. Not analysis. Not even conviction, really. It is a test of whether you can hold the shape of your thinking when everything around you is trying to deform it. Whether you can stay dark and impenetrable while the noise does its work. Whether you trust the preparation enough to wait for the moment rather than manufacturing one out of anxiety.

Most people fail this test. Not because they’re stupid. Because they’re human, and the human nervous system was not built for this particular kind of patience.

It was built for action. For response.

For the relief of doing something when something feels wrong.

Sun Tzu was writing for the rare ones who could override that. The generals who understood that the battlefield is not won by the man who moves first.

At 3:47 a.m., the oil ticker looks like a heart monitor.

Green. Red. Green. Flatline. Then a violent spike, as if someone hit the chest with a defibrillator.

You sit there in the glow of the screen, stale coffee, shirt wrinkled from a day that never really ended, watching crude jump on a headline about the Strait of Hormuz. A narrow piece of water that most people couldn’t find on a map is suddenly dictating the mood of every portfolio manager from London to Singapore.

That’s the joke. The market isn’t trading what is happening. It’s trading what might happen.

And “might” is a dangerous word.

The thing about panic is that it doesn’t announce itself. No sirens, no flashing lights. Just a slow tightening in the chest, a shift in the air you can’t quite name. The market doesn’t scream, it whispers. And if you’ve been around long enough, you learn to listen for those whispers in the static.

Last week, the whisper got louder.

Oil didn’t just tick up. It moved, nearly twenty dollars in a handful of trading days, punching through $94 a barrel like it had somewhere urgent to be. Traders started using that number again, the one they always use when they want to sound prescient but are really just scared: one hundred. A hundred-dollar crude. It’s close enough now that you can smell it.

Meanwhile, the Gulf is burning. Not metaphorically. Actually burning.

Iran launched missiles and drones across the region. Kuwait lit up, Dubai’s alert systems wailed into the night, Bahrain and Saudi Arabia found themselves in the crosshairs. Israel and the United States kept dropping bombs inside Iran, a campaign that’s already put more than fourteen hundred people on the ground. The body count climbs. The oil price climbs with it.

Here’s what matters, and it’s not the geopolitics seminar version: the Strait of Hormuz, that narrow little chokepoint where a fifth of the world’s oil squeezes through every single day, is now inside the blast radius. Every tanker that passes through is a bet. Every insurance underwriter is repricing risk in real time. Every central banker is running scenarios they hoped they’d never have to run again.

And Washington? Washington shrugged. Trump was asked about gas prices, and he said what every president eventually says when the chips are down: if they rise, they rise.

War first. Economy second. The honesty was almost refreshing.

When the Numbers Stop Adding Up

The economic data started cracking at the same time. Unemployment is back up to 4.4 percent. Nonfarm payrolls were down 92,000 last month, and that’s after they went back and revised the earlier numbers lower. Samuel Tombs at Pantheon Macroeconomics put it plainly: “The idea that the labor market has turned a corner implodes with this report.”

So now you’ve got energy inflation spiking just as the labor market softens. If you’ve been in this business more than a decade, you know this script. You’ve seen it before. 1973. 1990. Every time geopolitics slams into a fragile cycle, risk assets get punished. The market doesn’t forget these patterns; it just pretends to until it can’t anymore.

What makes this moment different, or at least more slippery, is the politics underneath. Saudi Arabia, which reportedly pushed Washington to hit Iran earlier, is now quietly looking for an exit ramp, trying to open back channels with Tehran. In the UAE, frustration is spilling into public view.

Markets can handle wars; they understand. Clear fronts. Predictable timelines. A beginning, a middle, an end. What they can’t handle is fog. Expanding theaters. Uncertain retaliation. Critical infrastructure is sitting within missile range, and nobody is sure what will happen next.

You can see it in the positioning. Demand for Treasury inflation protection has surged, pushing valuations to the highest levels in nearly a year. It’s the kind of quiet, defensive rotation that happens before the loud stuff. The stuff that makes headlines.

Time to Go Fishing?

If you’ve been doing this long enough, you recognize the phase. The screens are busy. The news is constant. But the conclusions? Scarce. Volatility rises, narratives multiply, and conviction, real conviction, becomes strangely hard to find. The battlefield map gets drawn in fog, and everyone’s pretending they can still see the terrain.

Jesse Livermore, the old speculator who made and lost fortunes long long time ago, had a line that still gets quoted on trading circles: “There is time to go long, time to go short, and time to go fishing.”

Is this fishing time?

The smartest operators know when the game becomes unreadable. During the oil crisis of the ‘70s, in Kuwait in 1990, after September 2001, every time the world tilted sideways, the best traders did the same thing. They reduced exposure. They held liquidity. They waited for the structure of the world to reveal itself again.

This moment has that same texture. Oil climbing. Geopolitical risk spreading. US macro data starting to crack. But no clear trend has fully formed yet. There’s movement everywhere and clarity nowhere.

In situations like this, the market doesn’t have much to say. And neither should you.

Sometimes, the most sophisticated strategy is the oldest one in finance. Hold cash. Watch carefully. Wait until the fog lifts.

Charter’s approach to returning capital to shareholders deserves particular attention. The company pays no dividend, which might initially seem like a negative. In reality, it reflects a deliberate and highly tax-efficient capital allocation strategy. Over the past five years, Charter has repurchased enough shares to reduce its total share count by more than 30%. For long-term shareholders, this means each remaining share represents a larger ownership stake in the business without any tax event.

The underlying business benefits from durable secular tailwinds. Remote work arrangements have permanently elevated household bandwidth consumption. Streaming continues to displace traditional broadcast television, driving demand for faster, more reliable internet connections. And as smart home devices, connected appliances, and eventually autonomous vehicles proliferate, the demand for robust home connectivity will only intensify. For nearly two weeks, the stock has traded in an almost perfectly sideways range just below the $236.00 level, which has emerged as the clear line in the sand. A decisive close above $236.00 is the trigger that would open the door to the next leg higher. I’ve been in this business long enough to know that the first casualty of war isn’t truth: it’s sleep. The second is certainty. By the time most people were pouring their morning coffee, oil futures had already rewritten the day’s script.

Brent crude didn’t wait for confirmation. It never does.

Here’s what they won’t show you in the sanitized market commentary: while state broadcasters in Tehran were announcing two hundred casualties, traders in Singapore were already repositioning. Not because they’re callous (though some are) but because capital doesn’t observe moments of silence. It moves in the dark, repricing risk while the rest of us are still trying to figure out what just happened.

When the Door Was Open

I remember the first time I understood this, really understood it.

It was 2011, watching screens flicker with news from Tripoli while my colleague (a guy who’d spent three years building a North Africa energy book) sat frozen at his desk. His entire thesis was evaporating in real time, and all he could do was watch the numbers bleed. That’s the thing about geopolitical events: they don’t care about your models. They don’t care about your conviction. They just are.

Iran has been in a ghost position for decades. A country that exists in the market imagination as pure potential energy—massive reserves, educated population, strategic geography—all of it locked behind a door nobody could quite figure out how to open. Every few years, someone would pitch the “Iran normalization trade” with the enthusiasm of a prospector who’d just found color in the pan.

And every time, the door stayed shut.

The Shah’s Iran, Mohammad Reza Pahlavi’s version, was the last time the door swung wide. Rapid industrialization, women in universities, a modernization campaign that looked, from a distance, like progress on fast-forward. But progress built on a foundation of political concrete has a way of cracking. Dissent didn’t disappear; it went underground, gathering pressure like water behind a dam. When Khomeini returned from exile in 1979, that dam didn’t just break, and it obliterated the landscape.

What followed was forty-five years of a different kind of calculus. The Islamic Republic became a study in how ideology and economics can coexist in permanent tension. By late 2025, the toman was trading at 140,000 to the dollar: not a currency, really, but a slow-motion confession of structural failure. For anyone trying to model Iranian risk, that number told you everything: this was a system running on fumes and willpower.

Now, in the wreckage of Saturday morning, a different name is circulating. Reza Pahlavi. The son. The exile. The guy who’s been waiting in the wings for longer than most traders have been alive. Some protesters have been waving the old Lion and Sun flag, the pre-revolutionary symbol that carries the weight of a different national memory. Whether that’s nostalgia or a genuine appetite for restoration is impossible to say from here.

Revolutions are easy to start. Building what comes after, that’s the hard part. And markets, for all their supposed efficiency, are terrible at pricing the difference between collapse and renewal. They can tell you what just broke. They can’t tell you what might grow in its place.

The Cost of Rationed Possibility

I’m writing this from a European perspective, which means I carry my own biases. I grew up in a world where institutions bend but rarely shatter, where change happens through negotiation and incremental reform. That lens makes it hard to fully grasp what it means to live for decades under a system that rations not just goods, but possibility itself. The economic cost of that isn’t just measurable in currency depreciation or capital flight: it’s in the ideas never pursued, the businesses never started, the human potential that atrophies in the absence of oxygen.

If Khamenei is truly gone (and the fog of war makes certainty a luxury), then Iran is entering a period where the only thing guaranteed is uncertainty. Markets will try to price it. They’ll build scenarios, assign probabilities, and hedge exposures. But the truth is messier than any model can capture.

This isn’t a binary outcome. It’s not “regime change equals opportunity” or “instability equals risk.” It’s both, simultaneously, with a thousand variables nobody can see yet.

What Gets Built in the Dust

Iran has the resources. It has the people. What it hasn’t had, for a very long time, is the political architecture that allows those two things to combine into something productive. Whether Reza Pahlavi—or anyone else—can build that architecture is the question that will define the next chapter.

Trump says operations will continue. Iranian sources are still counting bodies. And somewhere, in a quiet room far from the headlines, someone is already building the model for what comes next.

Because that’s what we do. We don’t stop. We can’t afford to.

Why watch? Atomera operates in one of the most consequential corners of the semiconductor industry right now. The company’s core technology, called MST (Mears Silicon Technology), is a materials-level innovation that can be applied during the chip manufacturing process to improve yield, control dopant diffusion, enhance performance, and reduce variability. For non-engineers: think of it as a coating or treatment applied during chip production that makes the final product more reliable and efficient, without requiring chipmakers to redesign their entire manufacturing process.

The timing couldn’t be more relevant. The semiconductor industry is pushing toward increasingly miniaturized transistor architectures, including Gate-All-Around (GAA) transistors, which are critical for the next generation of AI GPUs, CPUs, and networking chips. At these extreme scales (2 nanometers and below), manufacturing becomes extraordinarily difficult, and yield (the percentage of chips that come out of production working correctly) becomes the defining competitive variable. Atomera has established a strategic partnership with a large equipment OEM specifically to address these manufacturing challenges, a meaningful validation of the technology’s relevance at the frontier of chip production.

The company is also making progress in DRAM and RF-SOI markets, two additional high-value segments where MST’s diffusion-blocking capabilities could command premium licensing fees. Government-funded collaborative development programs represent another emerging opportunity, diversifying the company’s customer pipeline beyond traditional commercial chipmakers.

Now, the elephant in the room: Samsung. The Korean giant is currently laser-focused on improving margins by concentrating on high-margin, high-yield products: server DRAM, High Bandwidth Memory (HBM), and advanced nodes. To hit 50% profit margins, Samsung must improve yield, reduce defects, and maximize performance per wafer. Atomera’s MST technology directly addresses each of these pain points. If the technology delivers on its promises at Samsung’s scale, the licensing revenue potential would be transformative for a company of Atomera’s size. That said, it’s important to be clear-eyed: this remains a compelling story with significant execution risk. No licensing agreement has been announced, and the company is still in the process of proving commercial adoption at scale.

The company recently closed a $25 million registered direct offering at $5.00 per share with institutional investors. This capital raise provides runway to continue development and customer engagement while the licensing pipeline matures.

Technical Outlook: After an extraordinary 200% run accompanied by the highest weekly volume in the company’s history (over 30 million shares one week, followed by over 60 million the next, compared to a previous peak of just 13 million), the stock is now experiencing its first meaningful pullback. This is exactly the kind of consolidation you want to monitor closely. Notably, volume on the pullback has been light, suggesting sellers are not aggressively distributing shares. The $5.00 level is the critical weekly support that buyers must defend. The stock may seek the 20-day EMA rather than the 10-day as its natural resting point before the next move. A clean break above $5.50 would signal resumption of the uptrend, but patient investors can look for an earlier entry on a strong defense of $5.00—or a brief shakeout below that level followed by a swift recovery, which would be an even more constructive signal.

Is there excess? Absolutely. There’s always excess when humans smell the future. But excess doesn’t mean fraud. It means overshoot.

While these points are valid, the market may be underweighting a more nuanced and potentially more important story: how Micron is allocating its constrained supply and converting that strategic positioning into superior margins and cash flow.

In a supply-constrained environment (which is where Micron finds itself today), the most critical strategic decision isn’t how much to produce, but rather where to send what you produce. Rather than distributing output evenly across all markets, Micron is deliberately rotating its production capacity toward the highest-margin, highest-return-on-investment applications. This is a subtle but powerful shift that can dramatically impact profitability even if total unit volumes remain relatively flat.

As AI workloads scale exponentially, the storage infrastructure must evolve to move data faster and store it more densely to support the massive datasets that need to sit close to compute resources. Micron’s data center NAND revenue exceeded $1 billion in the first quarter of fiscal 2026, with the company successfully qualifying 122-terabyte and 245-terabyte QLC (quad-level cell) solid-state drives at multiple hyperscale customers. These aren’t simply larger versions of existing drives; they represent an entirely new product class purpose-built for AI-scale workloads. Micron is already qualifying PCIe Gen6 interfaces for the next technology cycle, positioning itself at the leading edge of storage performance.

For context, the shift from general-purpose memory to AI-optimized memory products can carry significantly higher margins, sometimes 2-3x higher, because these products are mission-critical, highly differentiated, and face less price competition. If Micron can continue executing this product mix shift while maintaining supply discipline, the earnings leverage could be substantial.

Technical Outlook: Micron is one of the strongest-performing stocks in the market within one of the most important investment themes of recent months: memory and storage. The stock is currently approaching a significant downtrend line that began at the end of January and appears ready to break through. After a brief pullback at the beginning of the month, the stock has recovered. It is now trading above the 10-day and 20-day exponential moving averages, a sign of strong underlying demand and buyer support. This resilience in a choppy market environment is particularly impressive and suggests institutional accumulation. A clean break above the downtrend line with volume could trigger the next leg higher, potentially attracting momentum buyers.

This week, the market did what it does best: it made liars out of everyone.

January started with Wall Street leaning so far forward they were practically kissing the pavement. Record low cash. Hedges? What hedges? AI was the lock, the sure thing, the trade you’d mortgage your mother’s house for.

Then, in the span of a few weeks, the script flipped.

Not because AI stopped working (it’s working just fine, thanks) but because someone finally asked the question nobody wanted to hear: who’s getting cooked by this thing?

Turns out, it’s not the robots that are the problem. It’s the humans who thought they were irreplaceable.

The Software Purge

The S&P 500 Software Index didn’t just stumble; it got dragged into the alley and worked over. Meanwhile, Goldman’s “AI resilient” basket? Outperforming as if it had insider information. The market’s telling you something, and it’s not subtle: software isn’t dead, but the gravy train has left the station.

If your product is a glorified wrapper around a database, a feature some kid with a laptop can replicate in a weekend using Claude or ChatGPT, you’re in trouble.

The companies that survive this aren’t the ones with the slickest UI or the best Series B pitch deck. They’re the ones managing the messy, high-stakes stuff: systems of record, critical data infrastructure, workflows where a screw-up means lawsuits, not just a bad Yelp review.

Complexity is the new moat. Liability is the new defensibility. Everything else is just noise waiting to get compressed into an API call.

The Contagion Spreads

But it didn’t stop at software. The fear metastasized. Wealth managers, brokers, and tax advisers (the entire white-collar apparatus that spent a decade getting fat on margin expansion) suddenly looked vulnerable.

A decade of optimism got repriced in weeks.

Private debt markets, loaded up on exposure to these businesses, started sweating. The S&P 500 had one of its ugliest stretches in months before a softer inflation print gave it permission to stop bleeding.

We’re range-bound now. Choppy. Difficult. The kind of market where forcing a trade is how you get your face ripped off.

Cash Is a Position (Again)

So we did what any sane operator does when the kitchen’s on fire: we stepped back. Closed another position. Raised more cash.

When setups aren’t following through, when the edge isn’t there, you don’t trade for the sake of trading. You wait. You watch. You preserve capital.

Why watch? Phibro Animal Health has undergone a significant transformation following its acquisition of Zoetis’ medicated feed additive (MFA) business, which has reshaped the company’s Animal Health division and provided a meaningful growth catalyst. For those unfamiliar with medicated feed additives, these are products mixed into animal feed to prevent disease, promote growth, and improve feed efficiency in livestock: a critical component of modern animal agriculture.

The company is executing on its “Phibro Forward Initiative,” a multi-year program designed to drive operational efficiency through structural changes. The initiative includes three key pillars: First, establishing a global procurement organization to leverage scale for better pricing and cost reduction. Second, strengthening Salesforce effectiveness and reducing employee turnover through CRM tools and enhanced customer focus, and third, expanding the product portfolio with new offerings for both livestock and companion animals, which should drive revenue diversification and growth.

The recent financial results demonstrate that this strategy is working. Phibro reported a strong second-quarter performance with net sales of $373.9 million, up 21% year-over-year, and a 41% increase in adjusted EBITDA. Management raised fiscal 2026 guidance to $1.45–$1.5 billion in sales, $245–$255 million in adjusted EBITDA, and $120–$127 million in adjusted net income, significant upward revisions that reflect confidence in the business trajectory.

The Animal Health segment led the growth, with sales rising 26% to $290 million, driven primarily by the acquired MFA business. The new MFA operations contributed $94.1 million in the quarter, with total MFA growth of 34%. Legacy MFA sales dipped approximately 5%, largely due to a roughly $10 million inventory-timing impact that management expects to reverse in the coming quarter.

From a balance sheet perspective, the company generated $47 million in trailing twelve-month free cash flow and ended the quarter with $74.5 million in cash and short-term investments. Gross leverage stands at 3.1x and net leverage at 2.8x; manageable levels given the growth profile and cash generation. Management also announced a planned CEO transition in July, with Jack Bendheim moving to executive chairman and Donnie Bendheim assuming the CEO role.

Technical Outlook: The stock was recently rejected at all-time highs of $54.62 and has since formed a very narrow Darvas box, a consolidation range of just $2.00 from low to high. This tight range indicates indecision but also compression, which often precedes a significant move. However, we generally prefer to see more than just a couple of days of consolidation before entering, as very short consolidations are more prone to failure. A few additional days of sideways action would increase the odds of a successful breakout. Once the stock clears the all-time high resistance at $54.62, there’s blue sky ahead with no overhead supply, a setup that can lead to explosive moves as there are no prior resistance levels to contend with.

ETF Exhaustion. Remember when institutional money was supposed to save us all? When were the ETFs going to bring legitimacy and stability? Yeah, about that. The flows reversed. The smart money that piled in during the euphoria is now heading for the exits, and they’re not looking back.

Thin Order Books. This is the part that should terrify you. When the whales decided to sell, there was nobody—nobody—on the other side to catch the knife. The bids disappeared. The market gapped down like a trapdoor opening beneath your feet. This is what happens when liquidity is an illusion, when everyone’s long and nobody wants to be the bagholder.

Gold and silver—those ancient stores of value, those supposed hedges against the madness, those metals that every doomsday prepper and macro tourist had been piling into like it was the last lifeboat off the Titanic—got absolutely slaughtered. We’re talking one of the sharpest single-day declines in decades. The kind of move that makes grown men check their accounts twice because surely, surely the screen is lying.

Just twenty-four hours earlier, both metals had kissed record highs. Everyone was a genius. The trade was “obvious.” Inflation hedge, they said. Monetary debasement, they said. Trump’s Fed pick means easy money forever, they said.

Then Kevin Warsh got the nod for Fed Chair, and the narrative flipped faster than a line cook flipping omelettes on a Sunday brunch rush.

Policy expectations shifted.

Sentiment turned.

And the crowd that had been screaming “to the moon” suddenly found itself holding bags of burning metal, watching their accounts bleed out in real time.

The Mechanics of a Massacre

Let me walk you through what actually happened, because the mechanics matter. This wasn’t some orderly retreat, some gentlemanly repositioning of capital.

This was a stampede.

A full-blown, trampling-over-your-grandmother-to-get-to-the-exit panic.

Silver (beautiful, volatile, treacherous silver) is a leveraged beast. The futures market is thin, the liquidity shallow compared to its golden cousin. When prices started breaking through key technical levels, the algorithms woke up. Stop-losses triggered. Margin calls came screaming through like artillery fire. Traders who’d been riding high on 10x, 20x leverage suddenly found themselves liquidating positions they didn’t want to liquidate, at prices that made them physically ill.

The momentum systems (those soulless, emotionless trading bots) smelled blood and piled on. What started as profit-taking turned into a cascade, a waterfall, a goddamn avalanche of selling that rolled across every exchange from New York to Shanghai.

Silver dropped almost 30% in a single day. Let that sink in. If you were long and leveraged, you didn’t just lose money.

You got erased.

There’s a quote that explains everything better than I ever could:

“The investor who says, ‘This time is different,’ when in fact it’s virtually a repeat of an earlier situation, has uttered among the four most costly words in the annals of investing.”

People piled into metals, thinking they’d found the golden escalator to the moon. They ignored every warning sign, every historical precedent, every flashing red light that screamed “PARABOLIC MOVE AHEAD: DANGER.”

Because this time, they told themselves, it really was different.

It never is.

Human behavior doesn’t change. Greed looks the same in 1929 as it does in 2026. Fear smells the same whether you’re wearing a top hat or a hoodie. The chart goes vertical, everyone convinces themselves they’re geniuses, and then gravity remembers how to work.

Every. Single. Time.

Timing Is Everything (And Nearly Impossible)

Here’s the part where I tell you the truth, the uncomfortable, ego-bruising truth that most people in this business won’t admit: timing this trade was almost impossible.

We tried. Our trading desk had been watching silver like a hawk watches a field mouse. We saw it climb higher than anyone thought possible. We saw the fake exhaustion candle on January 26th (the kind of move that usually signals the top) and then watched in disbelief as it pushed even higher before finally collapsing when the market was closed.

How do you trade that? How do you position for a move that defies logic, fakes you out, and then implodes during off-hours?

On our swing portfolio, we tried to start a position in ZSL (a leveraged inverse silver ETF) at the beginning of the week. Our stop was at $1.50. The low hit $1.44. We got stopped out and watched from the sidelines as it ripped 65% in one day.

That’s the game. Even professionals who do this for a living, who’ve seen every trick and trap the market can throw, get humbled.

We study these moves not because we nailed them, but because we need to understand them for next time.

You need to have a big, expansive, almost delusional imagination about what’s possible. Because the magnitude of moves we’re seeing now (the sheer violence and velocity) is increasing. The liquidity is deeper, the leverage is higher, the algorithms are faster. What used to take weeks now happens in hours.

If you can’t imagine silver dropping 30% in a day, you won’t be prepared when it does. If you can’t imagine a “safe haven” turning into a killing field, you’ll be the one getting carried out on a stretcher.

What This Means for You

You just need to understand the game.

You need to know that when everyone’s piling into something because “it can only go up,” that’s exactly when you should be looking for the exits. You need to respect leverage like you’d respect a loaded gun.

You need to define your risk before you enter the trade, not after.

And most importantly, you need to remember that the market doesn’t care about your feelings, your mortgage, or your retirement plan.

It will take everything you have and then send you a bill for the privilege.

But if you approach it with humility, with discipline, with the understanding that you’re going to be wrong sometimes (maybe even most of the time), you can survive. And if you survive long enough, you might even thrive.

The silver massacre was a lesson. The question is: are you paying attention?

This is one of those rare occasions where the research practically wrote itself.

We’re not hunting for obscure niches in forgotten corners of the market or trying to decode some impenetrable deep-tech that requires a PhD to understand.

The thesis here is refreshingly straightforward.

For this reason, this piece will be shorter than our usual deep dives. The company is relatively new to public markets, the technology advantage is clear, and the market opportunity doesn’t require elaborate explanation. There are other players in the space (some with bigger marketing budgets and more followers), but if we had to put all our chips on one horse in this race, the company we’re writing about today looks like the potential leader of the pack.

Of course, it’s risky. Early-stage companies have a graveyard full of cautionary tales. But the difference now is that people are paying attention. Analysts are starting to connect the dots. Defense contractors are placing repeat orders. This isn’t some undiscovered gem buried in the OTC markets; the opportunity is increasingly visible, which brings us to the real problem.

The worst part isn’t understanding the thesis. It’s finding a good entry point. In this environment, with the stock bouncing around on every piece of news, timing becomes everything. Sure, you could dollar-cost average your way in over six months, building a position gradually and sleeping soundly at night.

That’s the rational, disciplined approach.

Unfortunately, we’re constitutionally incapable of doing that. Averaging down requires patience, emotional detachment, and the ability to watch a position go red without breaking into a cold sweat. We have none of these qualities.

Let’s be honest about what happened this week. The noise (whatever the hell the headlines were screaming about) faded into the background. The panic sellers wiped the vomit off their chins, looked at the screens, and decided maybe the world wasn’t ending after all.

Stocks clawed back, recouping the losses, and everyone patted themselves on the back.

But don’t get comfortable.

Here’s the thing they won’t tell you on CNBC while they’re flashing green arrows and smiling like sharks: The machine wasn’t built for you. It was built to grind you down, to extract your capital and your sanity in equal measure. We are in a volatility grinder now. The easy money? That’s gone. Now we’re in the trenches, and the only thing that matters is survival.

You see it all the time. Good operators are getting chewed up not by the market, but by their own wiring. Fear when the floor drops out. Euphoria when the line goes up. Anxiety when the P&L flatlines. It’s an emotional whirlpool, and if you let it, it will pull you under.

I want you to really sit with that. It sounds morbid, I know. But in this game, it is the ultimate liberation. When the screen is bleeding red, when your thesis is crumbling, when you feel like absolute sh*t because you missed the move or took the loss, remember that you are dust.

We have one life. Just one. And it is terrifyingly short. Do you really want to spend your limited time on this spinning rock, letting a fluctuating number on a glowing screen dictate your self-worth?

Trading is what we do. It is the craft. We love the action, the puzzle, the fight.

But it is not who we are.

If you let the outcome of a trade bleed into your dinner with your family, or ruin the taste of a good bottle of wine, the market has already beaten you.

Put it in perspective. You are going to die. The market will be here long after you’re gone, blinking and flashing for the next generation of suckers.

So relax. Take a breath. Detach.

Now, let’s look at the board.

We started this intro with philosophy because, frankly, the tape this week was a mess.

We opened a position, but for the most part? We stayed flat. We sat on our hands.

Friday was a masterclass in illusion. You saw the heavy lifting.

The “Big Boys” (Netflix, Microsoft, the generals of this army) held the line. They dragged the indices higher. That’s important. It keeps the dream alive for next week. But look under the hood.

Our watchlist is thin. We are scanning thousands of charts, looking for that perfect setup, that moment where the probability tilts in our favor, and we’re coming up empty. It’s harder and harder to find good names.

After breaking above the $155.00 level (a move we unfortunately missed), the stock tested this same level last week and found support at the 10-day exponential moving average, now forming a tight flag pattern. With a stop-loss positioned below the 20-day exponential moving average, the stock offers an attractive risk-reward setup in a beaten-down sector, and EAT appears to be the clear leader. If the consolidation resolves to the upside, the next leg higher could be significant.

Why watch? Baidu just announced plans to spin off Kunlunxin, its semiconductor chip unit, and has officially filed an IPO application with the Hong Kong Stock Exchange. Kunlunxin produces AI-optimized semiconductors designed specifically for enterprise customers to run large language models and other AI workloads, positioning it as China’s answer to NVIDIA in the domestic AI infrastructure buildout. The IPO is likely to see strong demand from investors, given the market’s demonstrated appetite for AI-related offerings in China and the strategic importance of semiconductor self-sufficiency in the region.
